Councilman Joaquin Lopez has called for citizen participation (26/08/2009)

The second phase of the implementation of Local Agenda 21 Archena is now ready to take place in September in this town.

Local Agenda 21 is a United Nations initiative to promote sustainability of municipalities and is supported by the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia.

The Local Agenda 21 is the commitment of the people and cities with the environment and sustainable development, a strategic program to support universal economic and social progress with respect to the environment.

It is not purely environmental but a tool that encompasses all aspects that affect sustainability: social, economic and environmental.

Local Agenda 21 Archena was officially launched on 23 March 2009, although previously they had taken steps necessary to achieve this end as the adoption of the Charter of Aalborg + 10, which is the founding document of Agenda 21 or approval of the Municipal Organization needed for the implementation thereof.

The international community agreed and adopted at the World Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development 1992, organized by the United Nations Organization in Rio de Janeiro, Agenda 21, for each state, region and each local entity to develop its Planet Earth own Sustainable Development Strategy, the Strategic Plan called Local Agenda 21 Local.

The Diagnosis, which is the first step in the implementation of the Local Agency Archena 21, is in an advanced stage and is expected to be completed by September.

At that time it will launch the plan for citizen participation in the constitution of the Forum and the Council, citizen participation bodies provided by the Agenda.

Councilman Archena Environment, Joaquín López, has been very interested in achieving maximum participation of residents and associations, so these pages invites all who wish to participate by contributing their views, not only on environmental, but social and economic.

Those interested should contact the Department to have their assistance for public participation sessions, in which interested parties may make suggestions and improve the municipality.
