The Mayor and the rectors of universities in Israel and Greece inaugurate the Seventh Master of Art Therapy to be held at UMU Archena (05/11/2011)

The Mayor of Murcia, Patricia Fernandez, together with the rectors of the universities of Haifa (Israel) and Thessaloniki (Greece), President of the University of the Mediterranean, and other vice chancellors of the University of Murcia opened yesterday afternoon, in the halls of Museum of Murcia, the seventh edition of the Master of Art Therapy, which will develop in this population for the seventh consecutive year.

In this new edition has enrolled 40 people from different Spanish regions.

The Master of Art Therapy is a postgraduate and have a duration of two years, with a total of 720 hours and that of course must have successfully completed degrees in Psychology, Education, Fine Arts, Medicine, Sociology or related diploma.

The Art Therapy is a type of art therapy and creative therapy, which involves the use of the creative process for therapeutic purposes.

It is based on the idea that psychological conflicts and concerns can be worked by the patient through the artistic production.

Instrumented with different types of artistic disciplines (music, art, theater, dance) as the therapeutic situation you are facing.

In these seven editions have already completed their university studies in Art Therapy 150 from almost all Spanish regions.

At the event, Francisco Coll, technical manager of the Social Services of the City of Murcia, with Javier Corbalan, both university professors and directors of the Master, reported collaborative project for training in Art Therapy from the University of Murcia and other European universities and calls for the research awards in this area and the competition of 'Art, Mental Health and Disabilities.

Meanwhile, Patricia Fernandez, Mayor of Murcia, said he felt very proud that these studies were conducted in this population and that of course these initiatives would still supported by the City Council and spoke very briefly addresses the main aspects and advantages of science and art therapy as therapeutic experience.

Previously, all political leaders and university students opened an exhibition of work entitled "Building Footprints", performed by children Early Childhood Center in Extracurricular workshops and users of the Day Centre for People with Intellectual Disability.
