The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of the vehicle control devices established to comply with Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, which declares the state of alarm for the management of the situation of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, has arrested the two occupants of a tourism as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime.
During the performance, the Benemérita seized 5,700 kilos of marijuana, 1,218 euros in cash and the vehicle used for transportation.
The events took place in an operational device to control the mobility of vehicles and people carried out jointly by members of the Benemérita Traffic and Citizen Security Group, established on the A-30 motorway, which connects Albacete with Cartagena, at the height of the municipal term of Archena, to verify compliance with the limitations established during the validity of the state of alarm.
The civil guards identified the occupants of a tourism and, while finding out if the reason for their displacement was justified, they perceived how a characteristic smell of marijuana emanated from the interior of the vehicle.
With the appropriate security and protection measures, the agents examined their belongings and verified that in the trunk of the tourism they were transporting an industrial-sized garbage bag with buds of marijuana that dropped a total weight of 5,700 kilograms, as well as 1,218 euros in coins and banknotes of different value, all being seized by the civil guards.
The two occupants of the vehicle, 27 and 38 years old, of Ecuadorian and Spanish nationalities and residents of Las Torres de Cotillas and Ceutí were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health, for drug trafficking.
In addition, as their displacement was not sustained in any of the circumstances established in the framework of the state of alarm, both have been denounced.
The detainees, the drug seized, the effects seized and the proceedings investigated have been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court of Molina de Segura (Murcia).
Second case in less than a week of drug transport
This is the second case, in less than a week, of people arrested for alleged drug trafficking crimes, who have been surprised by the Benemérita in the framework of mobility controls established in the Region of Murcia by the Civil Guard.
