The City Council of Archena and ESAMUR agree to collaborate jointly in a citizen awareness campaign, which will begin with visits by schoolchildren to the WWTP.
The Mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández López, and the manager of the Sanitation and Purification Entity of the Region of Murcia (ESAMUR), Joaquín Ruiz, have agreed, after the last meeting held, to work together in a continuous campaign of citizen awareness, with the objective of changing or modifying habits of sewage use that are very harmful to the sanitation and purification systems, causing significant obstructions, and being able to affect the environment.
Actions such as throwing wipes into the toilet, pouring used oils, ear sticks, cigarette butts, compresses and other inert materials, cause serious problems on municipal transport infrastructure and wastewater treatment, and should not be thrown into the sewer under any circumstances.
As stated by the Mayor of Archena, "with this campaign of citizen awareness we will work to achieve a change of responsible habits of our citizens to care for the environment."
In this same sense, the manager of ESAMUR, Joaquín Ruiz, has stated that "not so long ago domestic garbage was left at the door of our houses and, today, it does not occur to anyone to leave the garbage bag in their door, we have changed, then, the way of proceeding of citizens getting them to deposit the bag in the corresponding container, even separating waste, packaging, paper and glass. The same happens with the wipes that are advertised as " biodegradable "and they are not. On the road between the toilet and the treatment plant they neither degrade nor fall apart, becoming a" monster "that attacks the transport and purification facilities."
Among the actions to be carried out are the visits of schoolchildren to the Archena WWTP, within the "Know your treatment plant" campaign, where students will be able to see, first hand, the important task of environmental protection that these facilities perform and all the individual actions that can be done to help in this task, as well as the impulse of the campaign "Do not travel to the past Do not throw the wipes into the toilet", which affects the threat posed to our sanitation by throwing hygienic wipes and others waste to the toilet, generating clogs in the sewers and causing the service to not work properly, in addition to having a high cost to the citizen and environmental impact.
