The works include the preservation of the current bridge as a service road in exit traffic, in order to unload traffic to the original structure that has special protection

The Community, through the Ministry of Presidency and Development, will build a new bridge over the river Segura in Archena and preserve the current metal bridge as a service road in circulation to increase mobility capacity of the main entrance to the town from the A-30 highway.

Counselor Pedro Rivera highlighted today during his visit to Archena that this action "will soon be a reality" and will consist of the unfolding of the current bridge, located on the regional highway RM-554, to solve the bottleneck problems in the main entrance Township.

This action will have an investment of about 4.1 million euros, financed by the regional administration.

Rivera, accompanied by the local mayor, Patricia Fernandez, presented this action to residents and businessmen of the municipality, which will improve communication and road safety Archena, put at the service of economic development in order to increase business and tourism potential Township.

"This action will give exit and entry to Archena in this central point of simultaneous way, without need to alternate the senses of traffic", explained the counselor, who indicated that it is predicted to begin the works before the summer and would conclude at the end of 2019.

To build the new infrastructure, a bridge deck will be installed parallel to the existing one, which will have a concrete structure and will not be a disturbing element of the iron bridge view, so it will not take away the limelight.

It is a bridge 660 centimeters, which will include an inner shoulder, vehicle lane, a sidewalk and a parapet rail.

Pedro Rivera indicated that to connect the new bridge, two radius curves larger than 100 meters will be executed within the existing urban space, "which is technically possible and is an adequate solution for the traffic and speed of the road".

In addition, the electrical wiring on the bridge will be eliminated, in order to be able to have the necessary clearance, burying the lining and moving underground junctions out of the abutments.

Also, the current metal bridge, which has a special protection in urban planning, will be restored, "to give value to this infrastructure because, with the solution proposed by the Ministry, we will reduce the traffic on it to half of what currently supports, which will extend its useful life, "explained Rivera.

The works will involve reinforcement, repair and beautification actions and only the dismantling and removal of the flown sidewalk will be necessary, which stands out from the main structure and which is not part of the original project.
