The Community works on the drafting of the project that will preserve the emblematic metallic bridge of the locality and plans to build a new one

The Minister of Presidency and Development, Pedro Rivera, and the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernandez, today inaugurated the renewed T-554 highway, which corresponds to the urban stretch of the RM-554, the avenue Mario Spreáfico de Archena, where Have carried out works of reinforcement of the firm, renovation of sidewalks and improvement of the road safety.

Pedro Rivera explained that the road supports more than 1,786,000 displacements annually and is the main access road to the town from the RM-554, which connects the municipality with the A-30 dual carriageway (Cartagena-Albacete).

The work, which has meant an investment of 250,000 euros, has improved road safety in a 500-meter section of the T-554 crossing, which is comprised of the Archena variant (RM-554), which is the connecting road With the highway and unites the municipality with the populations of the Valley of Ricote through the highway RM-522, until the urban helmet of the locality.

The director recalled that "this action was a priority for the municipality, because it considerably improves one of its main accesses," adding that "it shows the commitment of the regional government with Archena and the improvement and conservation of the regional road network, Which has more than 3,000 kilometers. "

The action has included the complete conditioning of the avenue, for which have been placed about 6,000 square meters of asphalt agglomerate, which has provided the best conditions of safety and comfort for users.

Also, the sidewalks, which have been deformed over time, have been renovated, and 2,500 square meters of prefabricated concrete cobblestone pavement, similar to the one in the surrounding streets, and 1,350 linear meters of curb have been installed.

"We have renovated the street lighting with the placement of 40 lampposts with led lamps, which will save energy, and will replace the street furniture and all the horizontal and vertical signage, as well as the services affected by the works," Rivera said.

Metal bridge

The counselor added that his Department is already working on the drafting of the project that will preserve the metal bridge of Archena and foresees the construction of a new bridge, parallel to the current one, for the direction of entry traffic.

"We will invest a total of 1.9 million euros in improving the mobility of the locality," said Pedro Rivera, who recalled that the works will be tendered this year, so that in 2018 the work will be executed.

The splitting of the bridge over the Segura River on the regional road RM-554, which accesses Archena from the A-30 motorway, will solve the bottleneck in the main entrance of the municipality and preserve the metal bridge, which is a Bien Cultural Interest (BIC).

The restoration of the original bridge will involve reinforcement, repair and beautification.

The solution proposed by the Ministry will reduce the traffic on it to half of what it supports today, which will extend its useful life.

The proposal includes constructing a new bridge board parallel to it, on the upstream side, almost glued, with concrete structure, at the same level, and that will not suppose a disturbing element of the view of the iron bridge, so that Do not take it away.

The counselor explained that to link the new bridge would run two curves of radius greater than 100 meters within the existing urban space, which is technically possible and is a suitable solution for traffic and speed of the road.
